Observation Narrative
The plot is representative of ~ mesophytic mixed oak forests that occupy the lower to middle slopes of Hurricane Mountain above Hurricane Creek. The stand is quite mature; an 80 cm DBH Quercus montana is located outside the plot. The overstory is a variable mixture of Quercus rubra, Q. montana, Liriodendron tulipifera, Acer rubrum, and Magnolia spp. Oxydendrum arboreum is generally abundant in the understory. Shrub and herb cover are somewhat patchy to sparse.
